Living In Color – Sage Green

Color of the Year – No, I Don’t Accept Mocha Mousse…

Colors change with every season, both literally and figuratively. In today’s modern world whiplash trends send colors zooming by us at breakneck speed. It’s almost impossible to keep up with the most popular colors every three months. Luckily (or unluckily depending on how you feel about it) Pantone graces the world with a color of the year, every year. A color that is intended to sum up the socio-cultural experience of the world. A color with which brands release new products shaded in this hue all year as limited editions… sound overly capitalistic? It is. Moreover, Pantone’s color of the year is often pretty lackluster (save for three years ago when it was Magenta but there’s no convincing me they didn’t plan that to coincide with the release of The Barbie Movie in order to make gobs of cash). Last year’s color was Peach Fuzz. An oddly tone deaf color, in my opinion, that had uncomfortable undertones of racism. This year it’s Mocha Mousse; I can only assume to counteract the poor decision in last year’s color. Yet this Mocha Mousse is still awfully creamy…

As a normal girl living in the real world, I find that I come across my own color of the year in which I find a particular color and obsess over it. I usually add a few pieces to my wardrobe or wear it on my nails. I may use it in my art for a while. The color then ends up in my personal list of favorite colors, which is getting pretty long…

Currently, this color is sage green. I came across it when I painted a room for my sister back in July and fell in love with it. Then, around early March of this year, I started to see it pop up here and there in my local mall. It was greatly overshadowed by the butter yellows of spring 2025- yes I know you’re sick of hearing about butter yellow- but the lovely depth of color in sage green really caught my eye. Also, for the record, I have no hate against butter yellow- it’s also in my list of favorite colors it just doesn’t look good on me…

There are so many directions you can take these swatches. It’s such a versatile color and is often considered a neutral because it has no set undertone- it goes with everything, even Mocha Mousse! Sage green is known to have calming and tranquil effects on the mind, which is why it’s my favorite bedroom color. Behr brand interior paint has some of the best sage shades I have come across. I used the shade Chinese Jade to paint my sister’s bedroom and it was a wonderful decision. The color brought life and light to the room. Whenever I can paint the walls in my next flat I will 100% be choosing sage.

If you want to add some sage green into your life I highly recommend the following items that I wear regularly (and no it’s not an ad, I’m just not gatekeeping my faves!).

1. Essie Jelly Polish in shade Cactus Jelly

I am obsessed with the Essie Jelly Polishes! This is just two coats and it’s stunning. The background is my sage green cooking apron 🥰

2. Vero Moda VMMILLION Top in color Laurel Wreath

Literally the most flattering top for broad shoulders and the fabric is so smooth. Also, the Bridgerton effect ladies; IYKYK.

3. UNIQLO Soufflé Yarn Sweater in Light Green

I love this sweater- it is my go to and I usually layer it over the VMMillion top.

Are you a fan of sage?? How do you feel about Mocha Mousse??

  1. OMG.. You should teach color class or be president of Pantone.
